Arthur M. Wolfe Symposium in Astrophysics

Esalen, California Mar 25-30, 2018

Greetings,

We are writing to invite you to the 2018 Arthur M. Wolfe Symposium in Astrophysics. The symposium will focus on new results, collaboration and writing. It will be held from March 25 - 30, 2018 at the Esalen Institute in stunning Big Sur, CA: (http://www.esalen.org).

The natural beauty of the landscape and on-site mineral hot springs are certain to inspire our science. Scientific focus will be on gas in, around, and in between galaxies. Everyone will be encouraged to present 3-4 slides of new research; unpolished/preliminary results are highly encouraged. Significant time (2+ days) is scheduled for collaboration and writing in this peaceful setting on the remote Big Sur Coast.

We are strictly limited to 40 participants. We request that you confirm your attendance by June 15, 2017. You will need to commit by that date to ensure participation.

To do so, visit this site to enter your details and pay the appropriate registration fee according to your room preference:

Many relevant details can be found on the registration site. The workshop fees cover lodging, food, and daily yoga+meditation classes. Shared rooms of 2 - 3 people are standard, and we will work hard to pair attendees according to mutual preference (feel free to note roommate requests on the registration form, though we will ask again at later stages).

If you run into any issues with the registration process, or have any questions, please contact Jess Werk at jwerk@uw.edu. NB: A “financial aid option” may be available for students. Please inquire if needed.

We will be organizing transportation from Santa Cruz to the Institute. If you require childcare, please contact us, and we will gladly help you make arrangements. We are also pleased to announce that Bob Carswell will be the first Venerable Comrade of Art to attend. His travel will be kindly supported by a gift from Linda Scott. We look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,

The IMPS SOC/LOC (J. Xavier Prochaska Joe Hennawi, Jessica Werk, Zheng Cai, Joseph Burchett, Frederick Davies, Marcel Neeleman)
