Important Note for All Attendees:
The Esalen Institute has very few rules and generally lenient policies regarding what behaviors they will tolerate at their beautiful site. For instance, as a default, many of the spaces at Esalen are clothing-optional for guests. However, IMPS is instituting an additional rule for ALL our conference attendees that appropriate clothing must be worn at ALL times in ALL public Esalen venues, including bathing suits in the mineral baths. We are sorry if this presents an inconvenience for anyone, but our policy is firm. Any astronomer found in violation of this policy will be forced to immediately put on clothing or a bathing suit, and may face additional consequences. Questions or concerns about this conference-specific rule should be directed to Jess Werk (jwerk-AT-ucolick.org).
Connectivity:
Internet access and access instructions are available in the Esalen lodge. Esalen asks that you refrain from laptop use in the lodge during mealtime hours. Cell phones do not work in many areas in Big Sur and do not work at Esalen. However, a number of pay phones are available for public use.
Massages, etc:
If you would like to schedule a massage or any other healing practice available at Esalen, you must do so at least 1 week prior to arrival by calling 831.667.3005. This can only be done after January 2nd, once the venue has your name as an approved participant.
